I first saw this movie when I was about twelve--and before I knew who Buster Keaton was. I wish I'd waited, so that famous duet could have really surprised me.
Charlie Chaplin always resented it when people thought Buster Keaton was funnier than he. But Chaplin also had a heart and knew that Keaton had fallen on hard times and so offered him a part in this film.
